Social Impact in Safeguarding Work

All members of our school communities are called upon to care for and create a safe and healthy environment for all (Global Identifier #2). Our important task is not only to guarantee an environment in Jesuit schools that is free from any form of abuse, but also to promote the protection of minors in a wider context. We do a lot to ensure the safety of minors: we have safety protocols and procedures in place, we train members of the school communities, and we implement numerous prevention programmes.

At the same time, we see the need for continuous improvement in this area: “Our responsibility is not doing safeguarding, but to do safeguarding that has proven to work best to prevent and eliminate abuse in the Church and outside the Church, that is to say, doing safeguarding with social impact. Our work on policies, protocols, and training must eventually translate into the decrease of abuse and the establishment of safe environments and a consistent culture of protection. Safeguarding actions need to be tracked and evaluated in this regard” (Racionero-Plaza, PCCP Project, 2023).

We warmly invite you to read more about the importance of social impact in safeguarding work in the Church and beyond  published as a part of the Promotion of a Consistent Culture of Protection (PCCP) Project:
