This year, Sant Ignasi School from Barcelona has been appointed as  European Parliament Ambassador School (EPA). Only three schools in Barcelona are part of this project. It is an educational initiative that aims to promote European awareness and civic participation among young people. This means that, with this programme, students have the opportunity to learn more about the European Union (EU), its institutions, European values and the rights that citizens have within the EU. In addition, students will act as « ambassadors » of this knowledge in our school community.

The programme is also connected to the ERASMUS + project (which we have been part of for years), promoting mobility and learning among young Europeans. The EPAS can contribute to this programme by offering students opportunities to learn and live in other EU countries, strengthening their understanding and appreciation of European cultural diversity. In addition, the EPAS work on various themes (global citizenship, democratic participation, sustainability, diversity, cultural appreciation, etc.) that can be developed within the numerous school mobility projects that are carried out with other European schools.

At Sant Ignasi, within the framework of the EPAS, we also promote the concept of Global Citizenship. This perspective reminds us that we live in an interconnected world and that global issues affect us all. This means that our students will not only be better prepared to understand the EU, but will also develop a deeper understanding of global challenges and the importance of international cooperation.

Throughout the course, the activities that we will carry out as Ambassador School are the following:

  • The creation of an info point at school: We will set up an information point at school where we will update relevant topics and promote information related to the EU.
  • Classroom materials work: We will organize classroom sessions and activities for students to learn about the EU and its institutions; we will use different materials in languages such as Catalan and Spanish, English, French or German.
  • The celebration of Europe Day (9 May 2024): We will share and celebrate European diversity and European values with special activities on Europe Day.
  • Cross-curricular collaboration with other schools: We will work together with other schools to enrich students’ learning and understanding of the EU.
  • Workshops and press conferences with MEPs: We will have the possibility to organize or participate in workshops and press conferences.

Students of Secondary Obligatory Education (ESO), and pots-Obligatory Education (, Batxillerat and Vocational Training) will participate in this programme. The teaching staff involved in the project will be designated as « Senior Ambassadors », and the students who form part of the working committee of this project will be the « Junior Ambassadors ».  Thus, those students who successfully complete their role as Junior Ambassadors will receive a certificate of recognition for their dedication and commitment to the project.

We are pleased to offer this opportunity to our students, which will certainly help them to develop their European awareness and knowledge, and will open doors to other projects.
