In an ever-evolving world, the Ignatius Emerging Youth (IEY) project stands as a beacon of hope and transformation within Jesuit educational institutions worldwide. Rooted deeply in Ignatian spirituality, this initiative aims to address the contemporary challenges faced by today’s youth and empower them to become proactive agents of change.

Youth today encounter a myriad of challenges unique to our rapidly changing society. Recognizing this, the IEY project was born out of the initiative of Jeremiah Boniventure Paul, a Form Six student at St. Peter Claver High School – Dodoma, who saw the need to empower his peers within Jesuit educational institutions globally. Through a holistic approach that encompasses intellectual, emotional, and spiritual formation, IEY seeks to guide personal growth and foster societal impact among the youth.

Goals and Characteristics

At its core, IEY embodies several key goals and characteristics like:

  • Holistic Development: IEY emphasizes the importance of nurturing the whole person, focusing not only on academic achievement but also on the development of self-awareness, social consciousness, and a commitment to justice.
  • Cultivation of Leadership: Recognizing that today’s youth are tomorrow’s leaders, IEY aims to cultivate leadership skills grounded in moral and ethical principles. Through critical thinking, ethical decision-making, and compassionate action, students are equipped with the tools necessary to navigate the complexities of the modern world.
  • Global Connectivity: IEY seeks to create a sense of interconnections among students from Jesuit educational institutions worldwide. Through collaborative initiatives such as exchange programs and global service projects, IEY fosters solidarity and global citizenship, breaking down physical and cultural barriers.
  • Comprehensive Support: IEY provides a comprehensive support system for students, offering guidance, mentorship, and resources to overcome obstacles and embrace their true potential.
  • Integration of Ignatian Spirituality: Rooted in Ignatian spirituality, IEY ignites a deep sense of purpose through contemplation, reflection, and discernment. By introducing students to the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, IEY encourages them to discern their unique vocation in service of others.

As educators and students within the Network of Jesuit schools worldwide, you are invited to join us in this transformative journey. Your participation and support are essential in realizing the goals of IEY and nurturing a generation of empowered and socially responsible leaders.
