History

Kaunas Jesuit High School (KJHS) is the oldest still operable school in Kaunas city. It was established by the Jesuits in the period of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in 1649. In 1940, the school was closed by the Soviet authorities. In 1991, education authorities invited the Jesuits to take over the state school. Jesuits accepted the offer and began the seemingly impossible task of transforming a „Soviet“ styled educational facility into a Christian-based school. Thanks to charismatic leadership and God‘s blessings, the school was transformed into one of the strongest schools in Lithuania.

KJHS is a Catholic community, which, in the Jesuit tradition of education, aims to develop spiritual, creative, social, responsible and highly educated graduates, who are modern and open-minded, striving for social justice and seeking to devote their talents to the service of God and neighbor. The total number of students stands at 814 and teaching and non-teaching staff is 107 in 2020/2021.  KJHS offers the basic (5th – 10th grades) and secondary (11th-12th grades) education, Pre-International Baccalaureate and International Baccalaureate diploma programs.
