Ignatian Pedagogy is conceived as a social space where the fusion between Ignatian spirituality and the educational task can be made a reality. SIPEI was set out as a workshop where the evangelization and the mission of the Society could be combined with practical educational experiences which have arisen through pedagogical innovation (SIPEI).

SIPEI, the International Seminar on Ignatian Pedagogy and Spirituality, was held between 2nd and 8th November 2014 in the Cave of St. Ignatius in Manresa (Barcelona, Spain). It was conceived as a space where participants discussed and discerned ways to find new points of collaboration between Ignatian Spirituality and Ignatian Pedagogy. The conversations centred around the formation of persons of conscience, competence, compassion and commitment – the 4 C’s – as the general framework for Ignatian Education.

This international seminar was organized by the Secretariat for Education of the Society of Jesus, as a continuation of the International Colloquium (ICJSE) held in Boston during the summer of 2012.

The 80 invited individuals who participated in person were appointed experts for the various regions in which the Society of Jesus carries out its educational work. Over 4,000 individuals participated in SIPEI virtually and watched the Seminar being broadcast live from Manresa over the Internet.

The texts and presentations from the SIPEI Seminar are available in our Resources section.
