The Colloquium on Jesuit Education is a triennial meeting of Ignatian educators focusing on a pertinent current issue in Jesuit secondary and pre-secondary education. The Colloquium, as so named, offers Ignatian educators a chance to engage in meaningful conversation about a variety of issues in Jesuit secondary and pre-secondary education. An essential component to the Colloquium are the Ignatian Inquiry Sessions, where Ignatian educators have the opportunity to present effective teaching methodologies and outstanding programs to fellow educators.
The theme of Colloquium 2022 is Seeing All Things New In Christ, with a specific focus on the Universal Apostolic Preferences. The overall approach to Colloquium 2022 will be through the lens of a “retreat” experience, and there will be dedicated times for reflection, prayer, and small group spiritual conversation.
The entire event will be guided by a “retreat director” who will offer “points for prayer” after each keynote address, which will in turn guide our further prayer and reflection, as well as spiritual conversations. As primary facets of the weeklong event, participants will encounter keynote addresses, Ignatian Inquiry sessions, and interactive experiences, all based on the UAPs. Experiential activities, Eucharist, and a local school visit will also be incorporated into this event.
The practice of Spiritual Conversation will play an important role in this year’s JSN Colloquium on Jesuit Education. In collaboration with Dr. Damian Zynda, McQuaid Jesuit’s Director of Mission and Ministry, and Alec Hufford, n.S.J., a second-year Jesuit novice of the USA: East Province, JSN has produced two videos that introduce Spiritual Conversation, In preparation for the Colloquium experience, all JSN Colloquium participants are encouraged to make viewing both videos a sincere priority.
