New Connected Classroom! “Magis Education with Minecraft Education Edition”

Ateneo de Manila University – Junior High School, a prestigious Jesuit school from the Philippines, invites teachers from our global community to the next Connected Classroom “Magis Education with Minecraft Education Edition”.

This Connected Classroom will be led by 5 Ateneo JHS educators and Minecraft for Education Ambassadors from diverse backgrounds, including Joel Falgui (English Teacher), Jason Arias (Physics Teacher), Lavi Subang (Chemistry Teacher), Brine Ayun (Physics Teacher), and Allan Santos (Computer Science Teacher). It aims to support the curricular needs of the participating teachers and schools.

The activity is designed in line with the Ateneo JHS guiding principle for international collaboration of “paloob at palabas” or “inward looking and outward facing” to ensure that participants draw from their local contexts to enrich their global interactions.

The motivation for the creation of this Connected Classroom comes from the idea of using the official Minecraft Education Edition, a version of Minecraft designed for education in a classroom setting, to provide opportunities for collaboration between students from different schools in the planning, building and presentation of their Minecraft projects.

This Connected Classroom, which will take place over three sessions, is one way in which Jesuit school teachers can respond to the challenges of the Universal Apostolic Preferences, especially Journeying with the Youth, by using Minecraft (recognised as the most popular game in the world) to meet curricular, global citizenship and intercultural education goals.

The structure of each 45-minute to 1-hour session will include time for participating students to share their ideas, collaborate, and plan asynchronous Minecraft builds that meet the curricular goals set by participating teachers. For this reason, an initial invitation will be extended to interested teachers to meet on 24 November (the week before the first session with students) to allow them to get to know each other and share common academic objectives to be achieved through Minecraft.
