The title of this article resonates strongly in our hearts and helps us to realize the power of sports, in fighting against intolerance and toward healing our world from conflict.

In this video UNESCO, once more, brings to our attention the unlimited possibilities that sports have toward healing our world from conflict, to open opportunities for young people around the world and to help promote a future where peace around communities, countries and the whole world is possible.

“Sport does not choose the Rich or the Poor, it is for everybody” Tegla Loroupe, former athlete.  Two great examples of this afirmation are the Olympic Games, an international sporting event in which thousands of athletes from around the world participate in a variety of competitions under the Olympic « Truce » or « Ekecheiria ». This truce was established in ancient Greece an it has been revived « to protect as far as possible, the interests of the athletes and sport in general, and to encourage searching for peaceful and diplomatic solutions to the conflicts around the world. » olympic.org.  Another example is the World Cup, an international competition where many countries gather together, leaving political conflicts behind, to celebrate soccer as a big global family.

For Jesuit Schools sporting activities are part of their integral Jesuit education. Throughout the year, schools participate in many sporting activities that teaches them the value of unity, tolerance, reconciliation and peace.

This year Jesuit schools have been invited to participate in the second edition of Expression 2018, a Global Drawing Competition created to harness students’ creativity and perception of “Peace through Sports” through illustrations and sketches.

This is a wonderful opportunity to contribute to World Peace!

See how to participate in Expression 2018 and help your school to become a stepping stone by which many more children can be propelled towards becoming ‘ambassadors’ of Peace!
