At Loyola Jesuit Secondary School in Zimbabwe we adopted the Lenten project « Who do you Want to be » as part of our Lenten experience.

We started in Ash Wednesday by watching Fr Arturo’s remarks and followed with the video for week 1. After watching the first video on « Showing the Way to God », using the lesson plan provided, the students went into their respective classes and reflected on the theme.

Following thier reflection, students came up with various responses to the theme in the form of Lenten projects, however, children chose to focus more on « Caring for our Common Home » by rebuilding our relationship with nature through the planting of trees at the school farm supplied by the Jesuit Centre for Ecology and Development. This was seen as suitable as the trees were readily available under the Laudato Si Lenten Tree Planting Campaign.

The other three videos are being used in Form 3 – Ethos and Identity class, since our school calendar is now tied up with national exams for Form 2 and Form 4 students.

We intent to bring back « Walking with the Excluded » to ignite our learners’ response to victims of Cyclone Freddy that has hit the southern parts of Malawi. Some schools have been destroyed and classes suspended. Most of the families are now living in Camps.
