On December 4th , 2019, 14 students from Classes 6 and 7 participated in the Virtual Global Christmas Prayer service through Educate Magis, an online portal that connects Jesuit schools throughout the globe.
The video call was held in the Mary Immaculate hall. The aim of the initiative was to give students the opportunity to connect via video with students in Jesuit schools in other parts of the world to share their Christmas wishes.
There were 4 schools along with our school, that connected at 2:30 p.m. The schools that we connected with were: St. Mary’s Hall, Stonyhurst, (Lancashire, UK), Jesuites Casp – Sagrat Cor de Jesús (Barcelona, Spain), Jesuites Gracia – Collegi Kostka (Barcelona, Spain) , Colegio Santa Maria del Mar (A Coruña, Spain) , Nuestra Señora de Montesión (Palma de Mallora, Spain).
The video call ended at 3:40 p.m. The facilitator of the programme Ms. Ciara Beuster, welcomed all the schools and with her meticulous planning ensured every school could hear each other. The schools had to follow the sequence given below:
- A short presentation of their class and of their school, the city and country it is located in, when it was founded and what languages are spoken in the school.
- A Christmas prayer/poem/song dedicated to a particular cause/deed/people/person/school.
- A Christmas wish to share with all Jesuit schools around the world which would be recorded and sent to the entire global community at Christmas.
There were various performances put up by the schools such as the Christmas Carol ‘Silent Night’ was sung in Spanish and English while another school performed a skit on the Christmas story and another school composed a poem on Christmas by one of the students. Our students sang the Christmas Song – Happy Birthday Jesus, thus spreading the message given by Pope Francis that the birth of Jesus pointed to a new way to live, not by devouring and hoarding, but by sharing and giving.
Our students also shared their Christmas wish by preparing posters made by each one of them. It was an enriching experience for all the participants to begin with festivities of Christmas.
