Creative Story Writing Contest: A World of a Tale – Entreculturas

We want to share with you a very nice news, which continues to encourage us during these weeks. We have opened a creative story writing contest for all who would like to submit a story with the power to imagine, create and contribute to a more just, sustainable and equal world. The deadline to send the tales is Friday 29th of May. The selected tales will be included in the publication  “Un Mundo de Cuento” (A World of Tale) which we are preparing with great enthusiasm.

CONTEST REQUIREMENTS

PARTICIPATION CRITERIA
1.     The story needs to be sent in a written format to the following e-mail address: educacion@entreculturas.org.
2.     The story needs to be included inside the e-mail’s body, including the author’s data: Title of the story, Name, Family name, Phone number and e-mail address. In case of being underaged, the parent/tutor’s data will need to be included. To authorize Entreculturas for the treatment of the data, we need the author to send the following document with the authorization and data protection details, both filled and signed. 3.     Admission of written stories will end on Friday the 29th of may 2020 at 23:00pm (GMT+2).
4.     Anyone who wishes to can participate, regardless of age, gender, nationality, country/place of origin, or any other discriminatory criteria.
5.     There is no established limit for the number of stories a participant can send, always given they adhere to the contest requirements.
6.     The story can be written in any language, though it will be necessary to include a translation into Spanish, French o English in case it is written in a language different than these three.
7.     The story needs to be rigorously original and unpublished, without it having received any other writing prizes beforehand. The participant needs to guarantee the story’s authorship; hence it cannot be a copy or modification of another person’s work.
8.     The story can be written between a minimum of 150 and a maximum of 900-word length.
9.     The story needs to be oriented for ages 12 and up.
10.  The story can be written in any narrative gender, including: fiction, fantasy, realism, oneiric, poetry, popular tales, fables, etc.
11.  The educational team at Entreculturas will read and evaluate all received stories, making a selection of at least three finalist stories.
12.  Entreculturas will be able to edit and lay out the story within the publication “Un Mundo de Cuento” (A World of Tale) depending on the paper/digital formats that will be elaborated.
13.  The elaboration and publication of the stories within “Un Mundo de Cuento” has no lucrative purposes, not for Entreculturas nor the authors. The publication has pedagogical ends, thus it will be freely available at Entreculturas’ educational website, Redec (www.redec.es), and may be shared in newsletters, communications and diverse websites.

 

VALUABLE WRITING CRITERIA:
· Themes that include at least one of the global challenges as presented in the Sustainable Development Goals at the 2030 Agenda (gender equality, environmental protection, peace culture, right to education, social inclusion, etc.), with the intention to raise awareness on the importance these Goals have for all countries to build a more just, egalitarian and sustainable world.
· A message of solidarity, empathy, compromise and mutual support between diverse places around the world, on the basis of an active citizenship that works in networks for the defence of human rights and the Earth.
· Stories that include the importance of horizontal and equal relationships and role models will be valued.
· Stories that reproduce stereotypical, sexist and/or discriminatory roles will be excluded.

 

SELECTION AND AWARDINGS:
1.     Selection of finalist stories will first be communicated to their corresponding authors via e-mail. Results will also be published on Redec’s Facebook account, Entreculturas’ educational site. All participants will be notified with a gratitude message via e-mail.
2.     The contest may be declared null and void in case no stories fulfil the abovementioned requirements.
3.     Authors will be asked to send a declaration assigning copyright to Entreculturas to allow the publication of their story.
4.     The winning stories will be published in the collection “Un Mundo de Cuento” under the coordination of Entreculturas, giving a special authorship mention to the writers of each story.
5.     Depending on the possibilities, it might be considered to organize a Storytelling Encounter for the winning authors to share their story/stories alongside with the other finalists and guests from the educational sector. Participation in this Encounter may be digital and/or in person, depending on the context and attendance possibilities.
6.     Three hard copies of “Un Mundo de Cuento” will be sent to every finalist author.

Participation in this contest entails the integral acceptance of these contest requirements.
