Another fruit of Global Citizenship Education: “Laudato si’ Competition”

At Istituto Massimo, among the several projects which have become part of our educational path, there is one born four years ago, that has been carried on even during the distance learning, in the period of the pandemic: “Laudato si’ Competition”.

The fourth edition is beginning to take shape with the training course for the first and second year high school students.  Experts, university professors and representatives of international organizations are offering their skills to trigger reflections, analyses and questions in the young participants.

Four years ago, three teachers from Rome Jesuit School – Mrs. Elena Maietich, Ms. Valeria Manca and Mr. Francesco Proietti – came up with the idea of proposing a different way to bring students closer to the issues of integral ecology, central theme in Pope Francis’ encyclical ‘Laudato si ‘.  The result was a competition: after training in class, students from upper secondary school would produce a video or an audio expressing their opinion on current issues which have a strong impact on their lives.

The success of the first three editions showed a strong sensitivity and great awareness on the part of our young students.

Each year the team defines a topic to work on, and this year the focus is  on “Animal welfare and environmental sustainability”.

The organizers are available for information and any late registrations. Please send an email to concorsolaudatosi@istitutomassimo.com

The current edition, involving the Jesuit schools of the Euro-mediterranean Province and some schools of the Roman territory, will end on May 27th with the “Iuvando Magis” Conference at the Auditorium of the M. Massimo Institute.
