Historia

Named after François Libermann, College Libermann was created in 1952 by the then and first Bishop of Douala, His Grace Bonneau. The college was first entrusted to the Spiritans who managed the school from 1952 to 1957. That year, College Libermann was handed over to the Jesuits. Their mission was and is to educate the youth according to the principle of Ignatius De Loyola. The first students graduated in 1960.

Since the inception there have been many changes. Actually when the school opened only male students (back then Libermann used to be a boarding school) were admitted. It is only with the arrival of reverend father Meinrad Hebga in 1968 that girls got the possibility to enroll. There have also been many principals the first of whom were westerners but nowadays the staff is entirely African.

Nowadays, with the ever growing demand in quality education, there are almost two thousand students who are registered at college Libermann. As mentioned above our school aims at educating our students in accordance with the pedagogy inspired by the founder of the Society of Jesus. However, not only Catholics are allowed in the school. In fact, students from any other religious affiliations are welcomed. Our education is meant to transform our students on the spiritual, social, intellectual and cultural level.

To this day College Libermann is known to be one of the bests if not the best school in Cameroon.

A saber:

SPIRITUALITY IN COLLEGE LIBERMANN

College Libermann is a Jesuit college ruled by Jesuit Priests. Their objective remains that of moulding rounded personalities ready for future integration in all works and walks of life.
In order to succeed in their goal the Spiritual aspect is reflected in the school program at chosen periods of the day and on specific occasions as seen below.

In the morning, students say a short prayer before the beginning of the first class. At midday the students equally say another prayer before going out for a one hour break.
A few minutes before the end of classes the students say another prayer in the presence of the teacher before they leave for their respective homes.

Every Wednesday, students of the same level have mass at the last period of the day in the company of some teachers.

Talking about sacraments, the students with a catholic background are privileged to receive doctrine classes. These classes prepare them for baptism and confirmation respectively.
Batptème

Under the supervision of our Priests and reverend sisters, the staff as well as high school students go through a spiritual retreat at given periods of the academic year.
Newly introduced in our school program is the morning devotion. While on the assembly ground students sing the national anthem and equally pray.
The above spiritual activities enable the students to be disciplined, responsible, to valorise human relationships and to be their neighbour’s keeper. For the Motto of the school goes thus: work, discipline, success.

WE ARE HERE TO BRING BACK YOUR SMILE.

This solidarity fund came into existence in 2012 with Equinox T.V. being it’s source of inspiration. After watching a series of pathetic documentaries on the program “regard social”, College Libermann students were enveloped in emotions. Their desire to help the poor and reach out to the needy led to the creation of the Solidarity Fund by Father Saturnin Tsayem.

Beneficiaries

Students from Sixieme to Terminale contribute a given amount of money every year which is saved in the solidarity bank. This money is used to help the sick, the rejected, the abandoned, the poor and all who are victims of societal discomforts.

These students usually come up with cases of patients or people living in abject poverty. These cases are tabled and studied in the students’ council of delegates which comprises of 42 delegates. Each representing a class. After proper examination, cases that call for immediate attention are chosen and presented to the director. The director then orders the disbursement of funds needed.

Case study and testimonies

This academic year, a number of six primary school pupils who were presented as refugees benefited from the solidarity fund. Libermann students contributed the sum of 250 000 FCFA to sponsor their education. Two of these pupils are presently in “Ecole Publique de Mboppi”. The students offered other gifts such as: buckets, detergents, boxes of chalk, pens, and exercise books and so on to the school management as a whole. The other four students were sponsored in private schools.

Early this year, a colleague’s wife who was seriously sick also received the sum of 250 000frs from the Solidarity Fund. A few months later the lady herself personally came back to the college to express gratitude to the students’ body.

Back in time a handful of students suffered fire outbreaks in their homes. This usually resulted to massive material loss and other students stretched out their hands and hearts to make life better for the victims. In all, a total of 18 students have been helped. They have happened to be unfortunately homeless due to fire outbreaks.

Four underprivileged students have also been sponsored by their mates through the Solidarity Fund. Their school fees were paid in totality.
The Solidarity Fund brings our students closer to the society, that is, closer to the needy thus they live with people and for people.
