The Ignatian Parent Network was launched in 2018 as a collaborative program among five New York metropolitan area Jesuit high schools. Begun by two school parents participating in the Magis Program, (Office of Ignatian Spirituality, Jesuits USA East Province) they began developing an exchange network of spiritual programming designed to engage parents and encourage collaboration across member schools.
Hoping to expand on this model of encouraging dialog and encounter to the wider Ignatian community, a global conversation on School Parent Spirituality began on the platform of the global community of Educate Magis. With that in mind, the upcoming Advent event, «Listening with the Heart: Kinship, Family and Belonging» will be offered across time zones to parents in a wider Ignatian Parent Network of schools. This is modeled on an offering made last year by Fr. Damian Czerniak, SJ, entitled Ignatian Spirituality for Parents.
This opportunity fulfills a need in the application of parent spiritual development and formation through Ignatian prayer methods, themes, and the Jesuit charism. Going forward it is hoped that this might serve as a model for other schools across the Jesuit framework.
To that end, those who are educators and directors of Ignatian initiatives are encouraged to invite parents into opportunities for deeper Ignatian spiritual learning both in their local school communities as well as offerings such as this that reach across borders.
