Two New Websites for the Society of Jesus

Two new websites have been launched by the General Curia. One features the work of the Curia itself and has a special focus on Father General. The other features the mission of the Universal Society.

This is a new moment for communications in the Society of Jesus”, said Fr General. “Our mission is to ‘Go out to the whole world and proclaim the Good News’. If that is our mission, then we have to take the media seriously. We have to take part in public discourse if we want to bring the Good News to people”.

Communications Director, Patrick Mulemi, masterminded the new sites working with SJ Digital in Valladolid, Spain. We can say to him ‘Mission accomplished’ as he leaves to return to his Province of Zambia-Malawi for a new mission there. John Dardis takes over on a temporary basis while the Curia looks for a new Communications Director.

It’s not all about departures – there are also several arrivals. Robert Ballecer (United States West) joins us as Social Media Co-ordinator and Pierre Bélanger has arrived from the newly created Canadian Province to work in content creation. We are engaging a new webmaster. Caterina Talloru continues her many activities in translation, web related tasks and office work coordination.

The Curia communications office wants to be part of an international Jesuit network of news and information”, said acting director John Dardis. ”We have just done some features on the synod on Youth and Vocational Discernment. Now we are planning how best to communicate the new Universal Apostolic Preferences when they are announced next year. I am glad to have such a good team and I thank Patrick for all he did here.”

For his part, on leaving the curia, Patrick Mulemi left the following note:

Dear Readers,
I have come to the end of my mission as communications director at the Jesuit General Curia in Rome. I am returning to Zambia-Malawi Province to take up a new mission at Loyola Productions in Lusaka, Zambia. I wish to thank you all for your support over the last four years.
I am grateful for the time you spent connecting with me and the General Curia through the Jesuit Yearbook, the newsletter, the website, emails and phone calls, and through various social media platforms.
I especially appreciate your valuable feedback, which helped the office improve its engagement with you.
But most of all thank you for being a part of my journey…
Patrick Mulemi, S.I.
