A’ Level students at St Ignatius College were recently undergoing a 10 day Service Project, where they are voluntarily assisting various institutions and people across Zimbabwe.
A group of 51 students is out to experience a different kind of life, rendering their services to others by completing a variety of community service projects.

They have been sent to different places in groups. The places include Mother of Peace /Leprosy Centre in Mutoko, Mother Theresa sisters, L’arche, Makumbi Children’s home, Emerald Hill children’s home, St Rupert Mission and Maryward in Kwekwe.

Service projects aim at helping the student to grasp their potential, not merely receive, but to give something which is valuable and worthwhile. Since 2015, over 100 students have volunteered for this project.

Br Martin Nyadewo SJ, the Chaplain at St Ignatius College said this Ignatian tradition will help students mature and grow spiritually as they experience a different situation of life. “As part of the Ignatian tradition, we teach these children to be citizens of the world and be responsible.” Tadiwa Gate, who went on to St Rupert Mission, expressed his excitement as he will be helping teaching fellow young people at the mission. “I am looking forward to assisting other children on vacation in various subjects, doing the general cleaning at the mission and helping the staff we open will widen my way of thinking as I will see God in it,” said Gate.
