Beginning on Friday, April 7, and continuing through Wednesday, April 12, Loyola Academy in Wilmette, IL hosted a week of activities called Solidarity Week which focused on the plight of refugees and immigrants across the globe.

refugeesAmong the activities were several presentations by guest speakers from such organizations as Catholic Relief Services (CRS), Voices for Creative Nonviolence, and Catholic Charities. Students also took part in a refugee camp simulation designed to open their eyes to the plight of those displaced by violence, extremism and persecution around the world.
All of the activities the students took part in were designed to connect to the complex issues and hardships facing refugees and immigrants on a personal level.
