Pilgrims from half a dozen schools in the Chishawasha Mission embarked on a local but lifetime pilgrimage to the special Door of Mercy at St Ignatius of Loyola Parish in Chishawasha on the 28th of May.

Inspiring Day of Mercy for Chishawasha SchoolsAbout 2000 students and teachers from St Ignatius College, Chishawasha Primary, St Josephs, St Peter Claver St Dominic’s and Goromonzi High School for the first time walked to the mission parish in observance of an inspiring Day of Mercy.

The pilgrimage fulfilled the Holy Father’s invitation for pilgrims to walk on foot and prepare themselves to pass through the door of mercy in a spirit of faith and devotion.

In a bid to seek, remember and encounter God’s mercy in the journey, the students did the Stations of the Cross, decades of the rosary and sacred hymns as they journeyed together.

The mission superior Fr Fidelis Mukonori SJ, was the main celebrant for the mass as Fr Mayeresa SJ led the rite of mercy. St Ignatius College Rector Fr Lawrence Daka SJ, inspired the congregants to meditate and contemplate on spreading God’s unconditional love.

Dancers from St Dominic’s and St Ignatius College made the celebration a joyous one as the combined choir vibrated in singing, supported by the mbira players from Chishawasha Primary.
