Pope Francis singed a new Encyclical called «Fratelli tutti» on fraternity and social friendship. The signature took place before the tomb of St Francis of Assisi, after celebrating Holy Mass in the Basilica of St. Francis on October 3rd, 2020.

The title «Fratelli tutti» is a reference to the writings of St. Francis: «Let us all, brothers, consider the Good Shepherd who to save His sheep bore the suffering of the Cross» (Admonitions, 6, 1: FF155).

The Encyclical on fraternity and social friendship was inspired by St Francis, as was the Pope’s second Encyclical, Laudato si’, on the care of our common home, published five years ago.
