A New Proposal to Bring Global Citizenship Education to Your Schools and Classrooms

We are excited to share a new proposal to bring Global Citizenship Education to your schools and classrooms!

As many of you know, over the last few years Global Citizenship Education has become a priority for the Secretariat for Jesuit Education and therefore also for the Global Community of Jesuit and Ignatian Schools. We at Educate Magis have been working, over the past few years, to gather Global Citizenship resources, materials and experiences as well as creating tools, which schools from our global network have been using in the process of introducing Global Citizenship in different ways, such as: to learn the concept of global citizenship, to connect students from different parts of the world, to raise awareness about global issues in the classroom, and many more.

…all human beings and their peoples possess a «global citizenship», where rights and duties are connected.» Fr. Sosa, JESEDU-Rio2017

Today, we are proposing a further approach, not only to keep educating and empowering our students to become global citizens but also to integrate Global Citizenship as a part of a long term Strategic Plan for your school.

For this, we have updated the Educate Magis Global Citizenship page where you will now find two tabs – one for School Leaders, providing a Template to help you work on a Strategic Plan to Bring Global Citizenship Education to your School. This section provides you with a step by step guideline through the planning cycle process.

The other tab is intended for School Teachers, here you will find materials and tools to be used in the classroom as well as a suggestion to adopt the Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm (IPP) approach to teach Global Citizenship Education in your classroom.

As Fr. General Arturo Sosa SJ mentioned during his address at the JESEDU-Rio2017 Congress, as a global community of Jesuit and Ignatian schools “we have enormous capacity to awaken hope in our world, contributing to the formation of men and women who are just, true global citizens..”

We invite you to explore and use the new Global Citizenship for Jesuit Schools page, and to share your experiences using all the resources and tools provided. It is our aim to help you and every member of your school community to develop this exciting and important aspect of our Jesuit education.

We hope that the template, materials and ideas shared through this page will complement and support the wonderful work already being done in your schools and classrooms to animate the global dimension of our Jesuit schools.
