Welcoming Jesús to Educate Magis

Last month Jesús joined the Educate Magis team as Community Facilitator. We are delighted to welcome Jesús to the team and present him to you, the Global Community! I asked Jesús to tell us a bit about himself and the path that led him to Educate Magis and here is what he shared.

Born and raised in a small town in Venezuela, I grew up dreaming about travelling and living in different countries, getting to know other cultures and experiencing a life of constant learning and discovering. We couldn’t afford to travel to other countries, but my parents gave me something far more valuable, they taught me the importance of education, discipline and determination.

I went to engineering school because at that time it was the safe choice in terms of job opportunities, but in my senior year I received a scholarship to pursue graduate studies overseas and then my dreams started to come true.

I decided to enrol in a PhD program in Engineering-Innovation management, but then soon realised I wasn’t ready for a career in research. After obtaining my Masters, I was offered a position in consulting and decided to stay in Europe. A few years ago I also earned my MBA, but by that moment it was clear to me that I needed a change. My dreams had come true, I had travelled and had the opportunity to live in different countries and get to know other cultures. A life of constant learning and discovery, but somehow it felt like something was missing. I understood that what I really loved about my job was being able to help others and knowing that in some way I was making a contribution to something bigger than me.

Education has played a critical role in my life, and I’m immensely grateful for all the opportunities and doors that education has opened for me, and for being lucky enough to have had access to quality education (at both School and home). I’m also well aware that not everybody has access to this and I’m extremely happy to be able to contribute and help others grow through Education. This is what I’m most excited about in my role with Educate Magis” (Jesús Avila Landeau)

As many of you will know, I have been working as Community Facilitator for Educate Magis since 2014. Seeing the community grow and develop since then has been an absolute pleasure. I am delighted to now have Jesús working with us to help welcome you, answer any questions you may have, facilitate community discussions and initiatives while I will be focussing more on coordinating Global Citizenship Projects and Initiatives.

For those of you who are new here I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Educate Magis and present the rest of the team. I always think it’s nice to put a face to a name and to know who is working behind the scenes 😊.

Currently on the team we have:

Left to right: Gellért Merza (Hungarian) – Mission & Identity Facilitator, Karina Zapata-Roche (Ecuadorian) – Communications & Marketing Specialist, Ciara Beuster (Irish) – Community Facilitator & Global Citizenship Coordinator, Mark Cummins (Irish) – Web Developer

and our newest arrival…

Jesús Avila Landeau (Venezuelan) – Community Facilitator

We are based in Galway, Ireland but of course most of our work is done online. As Educate Magis is a project of the Secretariat for Jesuit Secondary & Pre-Secondary Education we work closely with the Education Delegates in each of the 6 regions of the world and very much enjoy collaborating with members of the community from over 70 countries.

If you have any questions for us please feel free to post them in the comments below or send us an email to info@educatemagis.org

We are here to provide you with our support and facilitate the connection and collaboration among all educators from our unique and diverse community of Jesuit and Ignatian schools from around the world!
