This year is flying by! Here are Some Highlights From Our Global Community for the Third Quarter of 2020

This year is flying by! Another quarter is gone, and from this we take a trail of encouragement, hope and opportunities which emerged from several activities and connections among members of our global community. Our Global community is growing, both in numbers and in spirit. Here is a visual representation of the generosity and companionship shared in the last quarter.

At Educate Magis we have had to reinvent some of our services to be able to provide the support that schools needed in order to keep teaching online, this is the case for example with Connected Classrooms. Teachers were thrown into a difficult situation in some cases overnight and were looking for ways to be able to teach remotely. We therefore made this tool previously designed for iter classroom connections available for remote teaching. So far, there are schools from 7 different countries and hundreds of students that have benefited from this opportunity. 48 remote classes have been created for a wide range of subjects, such as: ethics, math, physical education, languages, social issues, literature, and many more.

There were other great opportunities that emerged as a resut of having to re-imagine the way in which we do things, such as the amazing global celebration for the Feast Day of St. Ignatius of Loyola, where students from our global community put together a virtual exhibition with creative artistic expressions of the meaning behind some of St. Ignatius’ famous phrases.  The theme of the global virtual exhibition was “St. Ignatius in Action”, a celebration of Ignatius’ invitation to the Jesuits and to all of us to become “contemplatives in action”. There were 785 art pieces shared by students from different ages and backgrounds from Jesuit schools all over the world: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, India, Macau, Malta, Mexico, Philippines, Spain, United Kingdom, United States and Uruguay. During the third trimester of 2020 we had the pleasure of hosting a beautiful celebration for the 40th Anniversary of Fr. Pedro Arrupe’s Address “Our Secondary Schools: Today and Tomorrow” delivered at the General Curia in Rome, for which, Educate Magis and EduRed, the consortium of the three educational networks of the Society of Jesus in Latin America and the Caribbean – AUSJAL, Fe y Alegría and FLACSI, developed videos and resources to celebrate and reflect on this important Jesuit Education milestone. Also, a project that has been in the pipelines for a while came to light, the presentation of a new resource created by our global community for our global community, the interactive map: “Jesuit Education: A Contemporary Map”. This is a compilation of the most important documents and events in contemporary Jesuit Education, including their origins, authors and important dates, all gathered in one interactive chronological map of key milestones in contemporary Jesuit education. These are the highlights we wanted to share with you all and which we hope will help us feel more connected and provide a warm and hopeful feeling for the days to come.
