Fr. José Mesa, SJ, Secretary for Secondary and Pre-secondary Education of the Society of Jesus, visited the San José School in Villafranca, Spain, in March.

Fr. Mesa visited the school during the week of March 20-24th, along with the Education Delegate of the Spanish Province, Fr. Antonio Allende SJ. During their stay, they had the opportunity to visit the school’s facilities, witness the daily school activities, hold meetings with the school managers and with collaborators from different areas.

A highlight of the meeting was the conversation he had with school leaders, administrators and faculty members. During his intervention, Fr. Mesa reinforced the idea of globality that the Society of Jesus has been actively promoting in recent years. Alluding to the Jesuit Global Network of Schools, he insisted that “we have the potential, but we are not exploiting it”, while encouraging the participants to “focus their efforts on the education of youth, as a global commitment, but joining forces to be more effective and have more possibilities”.

He focused his message on the option of “creating unity in diversity” because we are convinced that “we cannot give yesterday’s answers to today’s questions”, alluding to our young people.

During his talk, he presented the path walked towards the creation of the Jesuit Global Network of Schools, as an example of the potential of what Jesuit schools can achieve together. At the same time, he highlighted the importance of keeping in mind the way of proceeding presented in GC36, centered in “discernment, collaboration and networking”.

The San José School expresses deep gratitude for his visit, for his words and for the assessment of the work that is carried out and that he shared during his visit.
