Imagination will often carry us to worlds that never were, but without it we go nowhere.” Carl Sagan

Let us write a story!

Tales for Peace is an activity that takes advantage of students’ imagination to help us reflect on the many different ways we all inhabit the world.

Students from Jesuit Schools around the world contribute to this digital anthology. They share their creativity, talent, ideas and perspectives on what we can do to achieve and to keep peace in our worlds.

The idea is quite simple: take a moment to think about the world that surrounds you, imagine how it could be different and share your thoughts in the form of a story.
The selected stories or tales will be sent to other students, so they can illustrate them. Once this has been completed, the anthology will be published, so that we can all enjoy these stories and imagine the same worlds that you have written about.

Ignatian Spirituality provides a common ground and Educate Magis presents an exceptional communication possibility for us. So far, five editions of Tales for Peace have been published. You can find a link to them here.

Two years ago the invitation to participate was sent to the Jesuit network through Educate Magis, and last year’s call for participation received stories written and illustrated by kids from 14 schools in 5 different countries on 3 continents! See more about last year’s edition of the contest here: Presentation of the Anthology “Tales for Peace” 2018

The proposal this year is to aim a bit higher. We don’t just want to gather amazing stories in the anthology, but we hope that these stories are written collaboratively among students from different parts of the world!

How can you participate?

Students from our Global Network of Jesuit Schools can submit their story. If you are interested in participating, please see the requirements of the competition here.

We have also designed some dynamics for you to enjoy creative writing, to encourage reflection and to promote networking, below are some samples:

  • If you are a teacher of another Jesuit school, apart from Instituto Lux, we invite you to use the questions and the reflection materials available on the contest site “Tales for Peace 2019”, to plan a writing activity with your students.
  • You can also leave a request in the conversation “Tales for Peace – Collaborative Virtual Stories”, to be part of a virtual session where your students will have the opportunity to connect with students from other countries to write a story using Connected Classrooms live video connection on Educate Magis.

The deadline has been extended to February 1st, 2019!

Tales for Peace is an invitation to participate in a global, creative and imaginative writing project. Consider this not as a contest, but rather an opportunity for our students and teachers to create bonds with others and to offer an opportunity to share their stories in an international context. Just writing for the sheer joy of sharing what students and teachers write just so they can be read and to find out how far their imagination can go!

Don’t miss the opportunity to participate in this incredible creative experience!
