JESUITS – The Society of Jesus in the World – 2021

On Friday, 27 November, the Communications Office of the General Curia presented the latest edition of the annual magazine JESUITS – The Society of Jesus in the World. It was distributed to all the Jesuits and lay members of the Curia.

Over one year ago, Father General promulgated the four Universal Apostolic Preferences (UAP) of the Society of Jesus for the years 2019-2029. We can ask ourselves two questions: how they are being experienced as a single whole, and how can we prepare for the Ignatian Year 2021-2022, which will be inaugurated next May? This edition of some forty articles attempts to answer these questions.

Fr. Arturo Sosa himself suggested these two themes to the editorial board. His visits to a number of Provinces left him with the impression that, while the UAPs were generally well received, Jesuits and institutions had a tendency to identify with one or other of the Preferences, leaving the other three in the background. However, the 36th General Congregation urged all – Jesuits, partners, and institutions – to align their planning with all four apostolic preferences. This is necessary if they are to be apostolically effective.
