Make a Difference

The realisation that I am at my last ever assembly as a pupil of St Aloysius’ College is one that evokes a variety of responses, not least a relief that the days of top button inspections are soon to be behind me. It is, however, almost unbelievable to think that a place in which so many memories have been made is soon to become a memory itself. St Aloysius’ College is a place where we have all grown and become the people we are today. It has taught us to maximise our potential in academia and as people within a community. Even the writing on our blazers tells us that we were born for greater things, whilst AMDG in the corner of each page tells us that everything we do and achieve should be done for the greater glory of God. Throughout school, we have been reminded of the importance of being men and women for others: of being inclusive, generous and kind, and hopefully we will remember this even when our blazers are hung up for the final time.

On Thursday, we will officially leave school as OAs, but we will be leaving with a sense of accomplishment, with pride and with memories and friendships that will stay with us for the rest of our lives. I must therefore encourage my younger peers to make the most of your time here at the College because soon you will be standing where I am.

I feel that most of us are ready to leave school and, thanks to our teachers and friends, we are prepared to tackle life beyond the green blazer, however scary that might seem. Nevertheless, there is a general sense of sadness and nostalgia hovering over our year as we approach our last days in the College and prepare to write AMDG in the corner of our page for the last time.

On behalf of sixth year, I would like to thank all the teachers and staff who have made our experience at St Aloysius College so memorable and created such a happy, positive atmosphere for us to spend our schooldays.

Finally, I wish everyone all the best in your exams and, to Mr Browne, we wish you the best of luck in your new school.
