“Expression 2017” on Olympic Day

Olympic Day, Friday June 23rd – 2017, started off with a wonderful video shared with us by The IOC Olympic Studies Centre. This was followed by an introductory session on ‘Expression 2017’ –  ‘Expression’ is not just an art competition but a movement to spread Olympic values and benefits of sport for development and peace in the society.

‘Expression’ ambassador Mr. Roald Bradstock was congratulated by the school Principal Rev. Fr. Sebastian James S.J., the Olympian Mr. Joydeep Karmakar, the school Vice-Principal Rev. Fr. Joseph Kulandai S.J.. Also, the Olympian legend Mr. Gurbux Singh was congratulated later in the day by Father Principal. There were Video messages  played during the session with messages from Mr. Joël Bouzou, President of Peace and Sport and  Dr Constantinos Filis Director of the International Olympic Truce Centre. Furthermore, Olympian Dr. Maylon Hanold, the Associate Director of Sport Administration and Leadership programme at Seattle University conducted an interactive talk via Skype on Sport, Peace. She shared her Olympic experience with our senior students and guests.

At 12:30 pm Mr. Roald Bradstock the ‘Olympic Picasso” painted, for the first time, on the canvas the beautiful painting and flag off the competition. More than 2000 children from St. Lawrence High School took part in ‘Expression 2017’.  At the end of the day a javelin signed by Mr. Bradstock was preserved as a souvenir by the school.
