Educators will be Sharing Initiatives and Projects from their Schools Through the New Ignatian Year Page

May 20th, 2021 marks the 500th anniversary of St. Ignatius’ injury by a cannonball in the Battle of Pamplona. This anniversary and other events of Ignatius’ humble but inspiring life will be celebrated during the Ignatian Year 2021-2022. The Global Community of Educate Magis joins the Society of Jesus and the Ignatian family in remembering, experiencing, and looking towards the future during this special year. To assist with this, we are launching a new Global Jesuit Schools’ Ignatian Year page where educators from Jesuit schools around the world and their students will be sharing their own Ignatian Year experiences and initiatives throughout the year. In this article we invite you to read about the context and the different aspects of this new page Educate Magis “Ignatian Year”.

The Context – What is the Ignatian Year?

After being struck by the cannonball in Pamplona, during Ignatius’ recovery at Loyola, something remarkable took place. “His inner struggle and conversion led him to a very close familiarity with God. This familiarity, this intense love, allowed him to find God in all things and to inspire others to form together an apostolic body, full of missionary zeal. We are heirs to that charism and responsible for its legitimacy in the times we live in”.  (Fr. General’s message for Feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola 2020).

This year is an invitation to the whole Ignatian Family to contemplate and celebrate all things Ignatian, to find God in all things and grow in our relationship with God, with others and with Creation. During this year we ask for the grace “to see all things new in Christ”. While looking back on our 500-year-old spiritual tradition, Fr. General invites us to look forward and make the Universal Apostolic Preferences our special focus.

Going Deeper – “Four Key Practices in Ignatian Spirituality” online course

In the Jesuit tradition, the life, work and spiritual experiences of Ignatius exemplify a practical way to engage in one’s interior life, by starting with an awareness of personal experience. We are all invited to explore and learn from Ignatius through the spiritual journey offered in the new “4 Key Practices in Ignatian Spirituality Course”. This course is a great opportunity to walk with Ignatius on his spiritual journey and to gain a deeper understanding of how this 500-year-old tradition is still relevant today and can help us ignite this interior fire and share it with others. Ignatius’ influence is still very much felt today, as are his spiritual insights.

From May 20th, 2021, faculty and staff from our global community are welcome to join this self-paced course. To read more about the context of this course click here. https://www.educatemagis.org/blogs/four-key-practices-in-ignatian-spirituality-a-learning-journey-with-ignatius-of-loyola/
