Celebrating Earth Day in Poland

In Poland students are still studying online from home at the moment. Even young learners are at home, due to the Covid situation in our country. So this year Earth Day activities and lessons from “Zespół Szkół Jezuitów” in Gdynia (Jesuit Primary and High School, Gdynia) were organised online.

We learned about the history of Earth Day and why it is so important. Our aim was to increase the awareness of daily life habits and practices such as the usage of water, electricity, waste disposal, recycling, etc.

Mostly we encouraged students to think of how we can all take care of Earth in our daily lives.

Young learners (grade 1-3) had a whole day of activities. They watched presentations, films, created art pieces, talked about their ideas and wrote their wishes for our Mother Earth :)

The youngest students made snakes using the bottle caps (see pictures below), while the older students made surprise cards, posters and animations

In our school we have a beehive and when students are at school they may observe bees, learn how to make honey, and work with bee wax. We also take care of birds in the winter making them bird feeders. We plant flowers and pumpkins near the school in a small area next to school. We miss those days and hope our students will come back to school soon 🙂
